Beside the abundance of added types of insulation during the
construction,
the heating and cooling systems are green designed.
The easiest way to understand the
system for the entire house, is all the cooling is supplied from the ceiling.
What cools the 1st floors heats the second floor utilizing the same duct work
and zone dampers.
The same holds true for the basement zones. The furnaces are
all 90 plus units and burn outside air.
Each room has its own thermostat and can
be individually controlled with the exception of the foyer/great room which are
combined.
Zoning controls are simply
thermostats that allow you to comfortably control a particular area of the home,
for example
if you wanted the library or the master bedroom warmer or cooler,
just adjust the thermostats for each room accordingly.
Eight cooling zone
air handlers
(an air handler is a device used to circulate air, in this case cool air)
5 air handlers , cooling only, 1 is for the office, single zone. 1
for the library single zone, 1 for the foyer/great room single zone,
2 for
bedrooms total of 5 zones.
Basement
2 furnaces/cooling units in the basement with total of 7 heating
and cooling zones (a zone is an area of the house that is controlled by heating
and air conditioning).
Total
of seven heating and cooling zones.
Foyer Great room Greenhouse
1 furnace heating only with 2 zones ( the heat recovery system
from the sunroom feeds this system when the recovery
system kicks in this
furnace shuts down automatically.
Total
of two heating zones.
Two
other furnaces, heating only, have total of seven HEATING zones.
Total
of seven heating zones.
Office
The office has its own furnace with 1 zone how ever the duct work was
configured and stubbed out for 2 more zones and sized accordingly.
Total of one heating zone.
Great room
fireplace
There is also a 3 zone fresh air damper system that when set and
turned on feeds outside air to the returns of the 3 west furnaces.
If the great
room fire place is burning you will need this air to feed the fire if it is
extremely cold outside or it will pull air from wherever
it can get it, thus
elimination condensation problems in the out side walls and a drafty room. It’s
a good size fire box.
There is also a ducted exhaust fan system for the finished
part of the basement. Both systems have blast gates that sever the outside air
connection at the house wall that and need to be opened and closed manually with
the seasons or preference. Not hard to do.
The Large Garage
The large garage has it own heating/cooling unit. The large garage 1/2 bath is heated with a fan coil system that
pumps water through the
hot water heater that serves the office. This way one
does not have to heat the garage if one does not want to.
The control system
for the washroom has a sensor that shuts down the fan coil system when the
outside air temp raises above freezing
and there is an alarm that sounds if the
temp falls to a freezing temp.
Total of 2 heating zones and one cooling zone.
